Mentoring Worksheet - GOALS
Introduction
The purpose of the goal worksheet is to give you some thought-starters
and a framework to develop goals for your mentoring process.
Instructions:
Please review these questions to help you in setting goals
for the pilot program. Having goals set up by June 1 is the target but
if the schedule slips a bit due to finals or business travel, that is
understandable. Remember that the pilot lasts until late September which
gives you 17 weeks of development time from June 1 until September 30.
Goal Setting
You'll find questions below to help you in establishing
goals and actions to achieve those goals. While the traditional approach
is for the student partner to establish several goals, the alumni mentor
can also set goals if he or she wishes.
1. Identify at least 3 Goals
Identify at least 3 goals that
could help you improve your:
a) academic performance
b) work performance
c) balance outside of work and school
These goals can applied to one, two or all three
of the above areas.
2. Determine Short, Intermediate or Long Length
of Term
For each goal, determine how long it might take
to be accomplished:
a) short term (1-4 weeks)
b) intermediate term (4-12 weeks)
c) longer term (longer than 12 weeks)
3. Prioritize.
Prioritize the goals for the pilot.
Will it be better to work on something shorter, something intermediate
or something longer term?
4. Select Your Primary Goal or Goals.
Select at least one goal to work on
for the pilot. You can choose more than one. Set the time when you want
to accomplish that goal.
5. Build Your Action Plan
Define several actions necessary to achieve each goal. Use the Action
Plan format, if you need a place to start. Set What you will do, When
you accomplish each step, will you need help etc. Now you have your road
map.
6. Take Action and Get Traction
Take action and be committed to what you would
like to do. Get momentum. Use your mentoring partner to help at any stage.
